Google to acquire Panoramio

The good folks at Panoramio let everybody know about their imminent acquisition by Google today. According to the staff the deal should go down in about two weeks. I’m not sure how Panoramio will fit in to catalog of Google’s services considering Google already has it’s own photo album/mapping service called Google Photos. The acquisition may be as much about acquiring Panoramio’s considerable user base and cache of photos as it is about acquiring a web service based on technology Google itself created. User’s who don’t want their photos transferred to the big G have the opportunity to opt-out of the deal.

Thanks to a beautiful opening set by St. Vincent (Annie Clark) I’ve pretty much fallen in love with the song “These Days”. A technically incorrect attribution to Nico led me to dig a little bit deeper into the song’s history. While the song was actually written by Jackson Browne, it was first recorded by Nico with Browne on guitar. Browne later recorded his own version of the song, but it’s the Nico version that is most remembered. It’s this version that appears in The Royal Tenenbaums and whose style is mimicked in St. Vincent’s cover. As it turns out it’s a very popular song to cover. Below is a list of a few artists with a few mp3′s of the more popular versions of the song.
